professional woodcarver, founded a woodcarving firm in Sydney later acquired by James Cunningham. It included ship and architectural carving as well as cabinet and pattern making and was of some size, employing up to ten skilled assistants when needed. Oram exhibited 'two carved Book-rests, cut from the solid without joint or pin’, at the 1870 Sydney Intercolonial Exhibition. Was he also a copyist? The Kerrs had a small watercolour copy of Solomon J. Solomon’s gigantic oil painting Ajax and Cassandra (BFAG), signed 'Oram’.
