professional photographer, worked at Batchelder & O’Neill's Melbourne studios in 1864-65, then moved to Adelaide. From 1865 he worked for the Adelaide Photographic Company in Neale’s Buildings, King William Street, under Fraser S. Crawford. In 1868 Davis succeeded Crawford as manager of the company’s Adelaide studios. He was in charge when the studio was burnt out early in 1871 and 'all the valuable instruments and a large stock of negatives were destroyed. They were uninsured.’ Nevertheless, the firm continued with Davis as manager until 1878. Then his wife or widow, Mary Jane Davis, succeeded him.
