professional woodcarver, founded a woodcarving firm in Sydney later acquired by James Cunningham . It included ship and architectural carving as well as cabinet and pattern making and was of some size, employing up to ten skilled assistants when needed. Oram exhibited 'two carved Book-rests, cut from the solid without joint or pin’, at the 1870 Sydney Intercolonial Exhibition. Was he also a copyist? The Kerrs had a small watercolour copy of Solomon J. Solomon’s gigantic oil painting Ajax and Cassandra (BFAG), signed 'Oram’.
